Where to Plant?
By way of introduction, there are 3 types of church plants in the Antioch Network:
- Engineered - where the Antioch Network says ‘we should plant a church here’ and then we usually pay a salary for someone to do it.
- Organic - where one or more congregations come together to plant as they grow.
- Spontaneous - where a leader steps forward to say ‘can I plant here with you?’

Secondly, Antioch has 3 key priorities when it comes to choosing where to plant churches:
1 - Antioch is part of the Anglican Diocese of Manchester, which includes Manchester itself, Bolton, Rochdale, Oldham, Salford and Rossendale.
2 - We have a heart for the poorer areas, so tend to plant in the 20% most deprived parishes
3 - We plant churches in ethnically diverse neighbourhoods and on housing estates

Thirdly, here are 4 criteria to help decide where to plant, including
- Need - for example Paul wanted to preach in Spain because he wanted to make the good news known where it had never been heard.
- Opportunity - this could include "low hanging fruit" or an available building which present opportunities for the church plant and for the Gospel
- Specific Call - for example the Apostle Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia which formed a prophetic call to minister in a particular area
- It Makes Sense - this sounds "unspiritual", but it is often how organic plants will work
